A simple & totally cost-free solution to managing empty properties
We have helped over 250 people into new tenancies!
Since we registered as a co-operative in 1990 we have managed 15 properties in Brighton helping over 250 people into new tenancies.
We manage otherwise empty properties some of these being in various states of repair which we repair and refurbish and then rent out to our members.
We get properties by negotiating with the owners of empty properties. These are mostly corporately owned flats/spaces above shops or businesses.
We have also partnered with Brighton and Hove Council and Optivo Housing Association.
These arrangements benefit owners of empty property by providing secure and safe management of their property assets, properly vetted tenants and guaranteed rental income.
Prospective tenants of Lorgan become members and shareholders of the Co-Op by coming to General Meetings.
Membership is open to all within the Brighton area.
Decisions regarding management and maintenance are agreed upon through monthly General Meetings. More important decisions are taken at our Annual General meeting where we elect the officers of the co-op, receive the annual accounts and appoint an auditor.
Proudly Not For Profit
As a result of not making a profit from our operations we are able to offer tenants rents which are substantially less than market-level rents.
In a city like Brighton & Hove, which has high rents and low wages, we can therefore offer tenants the opportunity of being able to move away from dependence on benefits.
This is an added social benefit which doesn’t come with normal social housing.
